How Chevereto works
Chevereto accepts images through browser upload forms and builds media pages around the stored files. Administrators can organise material into albums and tags, control public or private visibility, create user accounts, and provide direct links or embed codes for sharing. The installation can operate as a private gallery, a community upload site, or a branded image host depending on its configuration.
MariaDB stores users, albums, tags, permissions, upload records, and site settings, while original and derived image files consume persistent storage. The first visit runs the upstream installer and creates the administrator after the database connection has already been prepared by the catalogue.

Multiple uploads, browser drag-and-drop, album organisation, tags, user profiles, privacy settings, and sharing formats support common image-hosting workflows. Administrators can decide whether guest or member uploads are accepted and how listings are presented. Password-protected albums and moderation functions depend on the installed edition and configuration.

Self-hosting Chevereto: requirements and cost
Original images, resized versions, thumbnails, albums, and future uploads are the primary capacity drivers. Processing demand rises with simultaneous uploads, resizing, metadata work, browsing, and search. MariaDB is included but unmanaged, and its memory is outside the exported application minimum.
AvaHost maps Chevereto to Plan 3 at €10 after the database adjustment, providing 50 GB for the storage-driven image library. Plan 4 offers 100 GB for a larger collection. The media-hosting stack includes one-click setup, custom-domain HTTPS, automatic application updates, and scheduled backups. Application email is disabled, so email notifications and email-based account recovery are unavailable.

Measure the existing originals, then allow room for thumbnails, resized versions, new uploads, database growth, and operational headroom. Chevereto is storage-driven. Plan 3 provides 50 GB as the corrected minimum, while Plan 4 supplies 100 GB for a larger library. Keep a separate copy of irreplaceable source images.
MariaDB stores accounts, albums, tags, privacy settings, upload records, permissions, and site configuration. AvaHost provisions the database and connects it to Chevereto, but the service remains unmanaged. Database records and persistent image files should be protected as one system during updates, migration, imports, or recovery.
