How Traggo works

Traggo stores work as time spans. A user starts or enters a span, gives it a description, and applies tags such as client, activity, project, billable state, or location. Because tags carry the structure, the same entry can be viewed from several angles without moving it through a rigid tree of projects, tasks, and subprojects.

Dashboards aggregate matching spans over selected ranges and intervals. Different widgets can show totals and trends for a client, activity, or combination of tags. The resulting records can support review and invoicing preparation, but Traggo does not independently verify that time was worked, approve timesheets, calculate payroll, issue invoices, collect payment, or apply employment rules.

Key Traggo features

Tag definitions can use colours and data types to make entry and reporting more consistent. Filters combine those tags with dates and descriptions, which helps separate billable work from internal time or compare activity across periods. A flexible model still needs an agreed naming scheme; duplicate client or activity tags can fragment reports and complicate exports.

The catalogue creates a generated password for the admin account and persists Traggo data. Users, access, tag vocabulary, export practices, billing rates, and retention rules remain under the administrator’s control. Application email is disabled, so the installation should not rely on mail for account recovery or report distribution.

Traggo vs Toggl Track

Traggo and Toggl Track both record time and provide reporting views. Traggo keeps the model centred on tagged time spans inside a self-hosted application. Toggl Track is a commercial hosted service with official desktop and mobile clients, team controls, project structures, reporting, billing-oriented features, and a wider integration ecosystem.

Toggl Track may fit organisations that want provider-maintained clients, managed team administration, and packaged integrations. Traggo is more attractive when a user prefers a compact server, flexible tags, and direct control of records, while accepting responsibility for access, conventions, exports, and downstream billing.

Who uses Traggo

Freelancers label time by customer and activity, consultants review effort across engagements, and developers compare coding, meetings, support, and maintenance. Small teams can adopt a shared tag vocabulary when they need basic visibility without the administration of a larger project system.

Traggo is less suitable for payroll compliance, automatic employee surveillance, resource scheduling, expense claims, invoicing, or complex approval chains. Time records should be reviewed before they are used for contracts, salaries, or tax reporting.

Self-hosting Traggo: requirements and cost

Traggo resource use grows with users, active timers, time-span count, tag combinations, dashboard widgets, reporting ranges, exports, and concurrent sessions. The catalogue provisions no PostgreSQL or MariaDB service and persists /opt/traggo/data. The software itself is free to run, and ordinary individual or small-team tracking fits the entry plan more readily than years of dense reporting data.

On AvaHost, Traggo uses Plan 1 at €2. The hosted Traggo package includes one-click deployment, a custom domain with automated HTTPS, automatic application updates, and scheduled backups. Payroll calculations, invoices, payment collection, employment-law validation, automatic activity surveillance, mail recovery, and external accounting integrations are not included.
